Readers Rally

BOOK LIST Interest Form

What is Readers Rally? Readers Rally is a quiz bowl-style competition in which students read books from a predetermined list and answer questions about the books. All students are welcome to join Readers Rally, but only 10 students will be able to compete. The competition team will be determined by a two-step selection process which includes a quiz and buzzer test. Students on the competition team are expected to read all 10 books and write questions to prepare for the competition.

Who is the coach? Ms. Hogan (School Librarian)

How many books do I have to read? The Readers Rally book list consists of 10 fiction books (linked above).

Do I have to write book questions? Yes, students are expected to write 30-50 questions for at least one book. Ms. Hogan will provide you with instructions and a template. Questions should be based on characters and events in the books and should be easy to answer with a few words or a brief explanation.

How often will Readers Rally meet & what will we do at the meetings? Wednesdays after school until 5 PM. We will start the school year meeting twice a month and beginning in December, we will meet weekly until the competition. At the meetings, we will play games (Book Trivia, Pictionary, etc), make book trailers, and play team trivia with questions based on the books.

How does the Competition Team selection process work?
Round 1:
At the first meeting in November, you will take 50 Question Quiz (5 questions per book). All students that join Readers Rally are welcome to take the quiz.

Round 2: At the first meeting in December, students who scored well on the quiz will be invited to the “playoffs” with clickers.
Please note, 10 students will be selected to go to the county competition in February 2027.

What is the cost involved with Readers Rally? There is no required cost at this time. Students going to the county competition are asked to purchase a team t-shirt which usually costs about $20.
